January 2017 – Kansas City’s own, Sports Artist – Anthony “AO” Oropeza, does it again! He put the brush to the canvas and – BOOM! – an another fantastic original of another sports great, this time it is of the great Mr. Roberto Clemente.
In baseball, when the greats pass away to that giant ballpark (not the San Francisco Giants) in the sky, they are typically honored at the ball park by their organization in one way or another. They are honored often to express their reverence and appreciation with a symbolic object or a series of objects. There are even special days or awards created in honor of their memory.
Along the lines of the ball clubs showing their love and respect, fans all over the world do the same. Many fans express their reverence and appreciation for their sports heros and icons with art – and AO is no different. He is a huge fan of the great Clemente.
A Reverence and Appreciation
AO’s reverence and appreciation is expressed through his paintings. Sports artist, Anthony “AO” Oropeza has just completed his latest original painting of the great Roberto Clemente – titled: “Clemente”. This 3′ x 2′ acrylic on canvas is AO’s first original of the Puerto Rican born humanitarian and Pittsburgh Pirate great. Even with all of Clemente’s remarkable work on the field, to AO, Clemente’s work off the field with helping others shows the real character of the ball player.
Although AO never had the privilege to see Clemente play in person, Oropeza’s artistic ability seems to captures the focus and determination of this phenomenal major league ball player.
