If there is one thing the fans of AO enjoy, it is his artistic range which includes his religious painting selection. Here we witness another wonderfully created piece by artist Anthony “AO” Oropeza. The “Pope Francis” work is the second of AO’s religious paintings in four years. This 2017 sacred piece is a another example of AO’s determination to achieve greatness at the easel. This beautifully captured moment of a the people’s Pope gives the viewer a deep and serene look at a subject looking for something from above. The pose, the eyes, the calmness and the yearning spoke to AO like none other. After this piece, AO believes more are in the future.
Art Work Created for a Donnelly College in Kansas City, KS
One religious icon archetype after another, his first, Saint “Mother” Teresa, and now his latest, the popular and revered Pope Francis which was created for a hometown college annual fundraiser. The event is named “SHINE”, and it is an annual fundraising celebration of changing lives through higher education. Guests and donors experience how students attending Donnelly College, recently named “Most Diverse College in the Midwest” by US News and World Report, work to better themselves and serve their communities. This year (2017) the school, for the first time ever commissioned an artist (AO) to create a religious piece to be auctioned off at the event. AO worked on the piece well before the event and then a bit of it at the event for a “live art” feel, as event goers viewed the artist at work and bid on the original piece. It was a huge honor for AO to be the first fundraising artist in Donnelly College’s history.
